| Layer | Component (Standard Clause) | Key Requirements & Description |
|---|---|---|
Conductor (4.1) | Made of copper or 1350 aluminum. Can be compacted or non-compacted round, shaped, or bunched stranded conductor.
Conductor Shield (4.2) | Extruded semi-conducting layer that provides a smooth electrical surface for the conductor.
Insulation (4.3) | Material is Cross-linked Polyethylene (XLPE) or Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR) . The standard specifies clear requirements for insulation thickness and concentricity.
Insulation Shield (4.4) | Consists of a semi-conducting layer and a metallic shield layer.
Metallic Shield | The shielding structure depends on the cable type: – Shielded Cable : A coated or uncoated copper tape, coated or uncoated copper wires, copper wire+copper tape,Longitudinally applied corrugated tape shield or metallic sheath . – Concentric Neutral Cable : The neutral conductors are spirally wound uniformly around the outside of the insulation shield.
Fillers & Binders (4.6) | Used in multi-conductor cables to fill interstices, making the cable round, and secured with binder tape.
Jacket (4.7) | Optional thermoplastic or thermoset material (e.g., PVC) that provides additional mechanical and environmental protection.
Metallic Covering (4.8) | Optional component. Provides a higher level of protection, such as Corrugated Aluminum Sheath,,Lead Sheath,Interlocked Armour or Steel Wire Armour (SWA)
